Greensboro, NC– Every Campus a Refuge (ECAR) was awarded a grant of $10,000 from The Weaver Foundation to assist with the general operating costs for 2023.
The Weaver Foundation aims to improve the quality of life and economic environment for the Greater Greensboro community. Both ECAR and The Weaver Foundation hope to empower individuals to engage in local and global concerns. Hosting refugees on university campuses and supporting them in their resettlement complements this mission as it encourages college students to participate in the integration of new arrivals into Greensboro communities that are well-suited to support refugees. The effort also allows students to be part of the global community.
With these funds, ECAR will be able to support the staffing of our small team as we continue to grow our network of ECAR chapters.
Dr. Diya Abdo and the rest of the ECAR staff would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to The Weaver Foundation for supporting us in our mission of mobilizing college and university campuses across the country to support refugee resettlement.
About ECAR
ECAR mobilizes partnerships between colleges and universities and local resettlement agencies to provide newcomers with free temporary housing on campus as well as community support. The program provides a softer landing and more dignified beginning for newcomers and enhances the educational, research, and service missions of colleges and universities. The flagship campus at Guilford College has hosted 90 refugees thus far and is currently hosting 15 Afghan evacuees.
