ECAR founder and director Diya Abdo has been awarded an Emerson Collective Fellowship. Diya joins a cohort of 12 Community Champions — Emerson Collective Fellows who are committed to bridging divides and knitting their communities together.
Fellows are nominated by a member of the Emerson Collective network and are selected through a rigorous, invitation-only application process.
The prestigious Fellowship encourages “individuals of exceptional talent and creativity to advance bold new projects in education, immigration, the environment, social justice, media, and health.”
Diya’s project, “Ṣawt: The Resettlement Campus Oral History Project” will collect, curate, and share the voices of refugees hosted by ECAR chapters. “Ṣawt” means “voice” in Arabic, and the project will amplify refugee voices and accelerate the establishment of welcoming colleges and universities informed by refugee experiences.
